Boston Massacre and Boston Tea Party
The Boston Massacre was a street fight that occurred on March 5, 1770. It was between a "patriot" mulisha, who threw snowballs, stones, and sticks, against a squad of sophisticated British soldiers. Several colonists were killed and this led to a campaign by speech-writers to awake the anger of the citizens. The riot began when about fifty citizens attacked a British sentinel. A British officer, Captain Thomas Preston, called in additional soldiers, and these were also attacked, so the soldiers fired into the mob, killing three on the spot, and wounding eight others.
The Boston Tea party was May 10th, 1773 when more than one hundred colonists dumped about forty five tons of tea, into the Boston Harbor. Today, this tea would have costed a million dollars. This famous act of American colonial defiance served as a protest against taxation. This resulted in the passage of the harsh Coercive Acts in 1774 and pushed the two sides closer to war.
