Proclamation of 1763
King George III wanted to avoid another costly war with the Native Americans, so he proposed an act that tried to stop the expansion of the colonies into Native American lands to the west of the Appalachian Mountains. Although the proclamation was said to be temporary, its economic benefits for Britain made ministers want to keep it until the start of the Revolution. Many colonists didn't want this proclamation to be permanent because they had a desire for good crops, but others simply disliked the royal restrictions on trade and migration.
